If you are thinking of bringing your parents to Australia on a permanent or temporary stay; below are some parent visa categories which could help you decide depending on your circumstances;

Permanent Parent visa subclasses:

​

143 Contributory Parent Visa

​

Eligibility:

​

• Must be sponsored by an eligible sponsor. 

• Meet Balance of family test.

• Not hold a 870 Parent visa (temporary) when applying for this visa.

• Hold a 173 visa and want to apply for permanent residency after the prescribed period.

• Meet health and character requirements.

• Need to be able to obtain Assurance of support.

Parent Visa 103:

​

Eligibility:

​

• Must be sponsored by an eligible sponsor.

• Meet Balance of family test.

• Meet health and character requirements.

• Need to be able to obtain Assurance of support.

 

 

884 Aged parent

​

​

Eligibility:

​

• Must be sponsored by an eligible sponsor; will be your child or step child. They must be settled in Australia as an Australian Citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen

• Meet Balance of family test

• Meet health and character requirements

• Need to be able to obtain Assurance of support

864 Contributory Aged parent

​

Eligibility:

​

• Must be sponsored by an eligible sponsor.

• Meet Balance of family test

• Meet health and character requirements

• Need to be able to obtain Assurance of support

804 Aged parent

​

​

Eligibility:

​

• Must be sponsored by an eligible sponsor.

• Meet Balance of family test

• Meet health and character requirements

• Need to be able to obtain Assurance of support.

Temporary Parent visas:

 

870 Sponsored Parent Visa

​

This visa is a temporary parent visa and you can chose if you want to apply for a 3 or 5 year visa.

​

Eligibility for Applicant:

​​

• You must be the biological parent, step-parent, or parent in law of your sponsor

• Your sponsor must be approved first before applying for this visa.

• You must meet health and character requirements

• You must maintain adequate health insurance

​

Eligibility for Sponsor:

​

• Must be an Australian Citizen;

• Be an Australian permanent resident and reside in Australia for at least 4 years or; Be an Australian Citizen.

• Have not been unlawful

• Must pass the income test

173 Contributory Parent Visa

​

This is a temporary visa that will allow you to stay in Australia for up to 2 years. You will then be able to apply for the 143 Parent visa (permanent).

You can include members of family unit in your application when you apply.

 

Eligibility:

• Not have a sponsored Parent 870 visa

• Must have a sponsor. You would be usually sponsored by an eligible child

• Must meet health and character requirements

• Meet Family of Balance test

884 Aged parent - Contributory Aged Parent

​

This is a temporary visa that will allow you to stay in Australia for up to 2 years. You will then be able to apply for the 864 Contributory Aged Parent visa (permanent).

You can include members of family unit in your application when you apply.

• Not have a sponsored Parent 870 visa

• Must be sponsored by an eligible child

• Must meet health and character requirements

• Meet Family of Balance tes
