Citizenship​

You can apply for Australian Citizenship in 3 different ways;

​

  1. Become an Australia Citizen by Conferral:

​

Eligibility:

​

  • Must be an Australian Permanent Resident ages.

  • Meet Residency Requirement:              

                Must have been living in Australia on valid visa for the last 4 years

                Must not have been away from Australia for more than 12 months in the last 4 years, and in the last 12 months must not have been away                  for more than 90 days (3months).

 Children under 16 do not need to meet the residency requirement but those who are 16 or 17 years need to meet the rules.

 

   2. For people over 60yo (by conferral)

​

To apply for Australian citizenship under this way you need to be 60 years old and above.

​

Eligibility:

​

  • Meet Residency Requirement:

  • Must have been living in Australia on valid visa for the last 4 years.

   

Must not have been away from Australia for more than 12 months  in the last 4 years, and in the last 12 months must not have been away                 for more than 90 days (3months).

** You do not need to sit the citizenship test!

   3. Apply for your citizenship by descent:

​

This is for those whose parents were born in Australian and whose children were born overseas.

​​

  • Born outside

  • Must have been born on or after 26/01/1949

  • Your parent must have lawfully spent 2 or more years in Australia before applying for Australian citizenship.

  • If you are 18 years or older you must meet the character requirement.
