485 Visa ​

This visa has two streams:

​

1. Graduate Work Stream:

​

This stream is for students who have recently graduated and have the skills and qualifications that are needed in Australia.

You can stay in Australia with this visa for up to 18 months but if you hold a Hong Kong passport you may be able to stay in Australia for 5 years.

 

Eligibility:

​

• You must be under 50

• You will need to have held a student visa in the last 6 months before applying for this visa. You may also have been the main holder of the student visa

• In the last 6 months before applying you must have also met the Australian Study requirement. This means;

• You must have the skills and qualifications that are needed in Australia. Your occupation must be on the occupation list

• You must meet the minimum English requirement

• You must hold health insurance throughout the whole of your visa validity

 

   2. Post-graduate Stream:

This stream is for students who need to complete studies at the Bachelor, Masters or Doctorate level which can take at least 2 academic years.

 

Upon grant, this visa can last up to 2-4 years.

​

No skills assessment is required or proving that your occupation is on the skilled occupation list.

 

Eligibility:

• If you have applied for or been granted your first student visa on or after 5 November 2011.

• Need to meet the English language requirements

• Need to show that you have made adequate arrangements for health insurance once your 485 is granted.
